Frequently Asked Questions About Wendy Women’s Clinic
-
When is it necessary to visit a gynaecologist or obstetrician?
It is recommended to have your first visit between the ages of 13 and 15, or earlier if you have symptoms like painful or irregular periods, abnormal vaginal bleeding, pelvic pain or other reproductive health concerns. Regular visits are also important for women throughout adulthood—whether for annual check-ups, pre-pregnancy planning, or as advised by a primary care doctor. At our Novena clinic, our gynaecologist can provide confidential and comfortable consultations for women of all ages.
-
What usually happens at a gynaecologist or obstetrician appointment?
The first appointment usually begins with a detailed discussion of your medical history and any specific health concerns. A pelvic examination or Pap smear may be performed if indicated, though many initial visits do not require one. Depending on your symptoms, our gynae specialist may also recommend an ultrasound or order blood tests to gain a clearer understanding of your condition.
-
Do I need to prepare anything for my first gynae visit?
Be prepared to discuss your menstrual history, sexual activity and any symptoms or concerns you may have. Bringing a list of questions can help you make the most of your visit. The doctor may also ask about your health habits, medications, allergies, family medical history and lifestyle. At our female gynae clinic, most initial visits don’t require special preparation—just an open conversation about your health and goals.

What is postpartum care, and how long does it last?
Postpartum care refers to the health care a mother receives after childbirth, focusing on recovery and emotional well-being. It includes monitoring healing, addressing breastfeeding or hormonal issues, and mental health support. Postpartum care typically lasts up to six weeks after delivery but may extend longer depending on individual needs.
